Tax season in California has officially come to an end! Whether you filed early, right on time, or had to hustle through those last-minute details — we want to say congrats. It’s no small task, and we’re proud to have helped so many of you through the process this year.
But just because filing season is over doesn’t mean we disappear. Here’s what you should know in the upcoming weeks and months:
✅ Missed the Deadline?
If you didn’t file your taxes on time — don’t panic. You may still be able to file late and minimize penalties, especially if you’re due a refund. If you owe taxes and missed the deadline, reach out to us ASAP so we can help you get back on track and explore your options for payment plans or penalty relief.
Extended Deadline for Natural Disaster Victims
If you live in certain California counties that were affected by wildfires or other federally declared disasters, you may have until November 1, 2025, to file your federal and state taxes.
This applies to residents in areas like San Diego, Los Angeles, Ventura, and others that were hit by severe storms or fires.
➡️ Double-check if your county qualifies or message us and we’ll verify it for you. If you’re eligible, you get extra time to file and pay without penalties.
📄 Refund Still Processing?
Many refunds are still being processed by the IRS and Franchise Tax Board (FTB). You can track your federal refund here and your California refund here. If it’s been more than 21 days and you haven’t received anything, let us know and we’ll help you investigate.
📚 What Should You Do Next?
1. Save Your Tax Documents
Keep all your 2024 tax forms, receipts, and supporting docs stored safely — either digitally or physically. You’ll need them for record-keeping or if the IRS has questions later.
2. Review This Year’s Return
Understanding your 2024 return can help you make better money moves this year. Did you owe more than expected? Let’s adjust your withholdings. Did you miss any deductions? Let’s plan better for next time.
3. Get Ready for Quarterly Payments (if applicable)
If you’re self-employed, own rental properties, or run a small business, your next estimated tax payment is due June 17, 2025. We’ll help you calculate what’s due and avoid surprises.
4. Start Thinking About Tax Strategy for 2025
Now’s the perfect time to schedule a strategy session. Whether you’re a content creator, entrepreneur, or just want to be more tax-efficient this year — we can help you structure things right from the start.
